One of the things many times comes up during social events are questions about my passion for high heels. Questions which are often the same. That’s why I sometimes answer frequently asked questions here. Next to this kind of personal questions, I’m also asked frequently for some advice about shoes and high heels. Today part 1 - Some shoes and high heel buying tips:
- Buy the right size. Don’t just buy a size 6, cause you always have a size 6. Employees in the shoe store should know how to make sure you’ve got the right one. If they don’t, you’re in a wrong store! Walk out the door (don’t forget your shoes) and never walk through that door again.
- Choose preferable leather shoes if you can afford it. You’ll be very glad I told you that after an hour in your brand new shoes. Also, leather lasts much longer.
- New leather shoes may be a bit squeezing, but not painfull. The leather will model to your foot when you really start wearing the shoes in a short period of time. Other materials must fit from the start. It won’t model to your feet, despite the stories you might hear from store eployees.
- Be sure you can actually walk on those killer heels. Or be at least confident you can walk on the shoes after some practicing. Nothing so embarassing to see you wiggling like a duck down the dancefloor.
- Always wear your shoes around the house for a couple of times to let the leather model to your feet. It also helps to roughen the most of the times very slippery sole a bit. You can also use sandpaper.
Only just a few days ago I posted a blog about heels lighting up. Well, Jimmy Choo has incorporated the idea already in the sky high 5.1 inch (13 cm) heel of the upcoming Zap sandal. With it’s neon colors and trendy platform it’s all eighties again.
The price however is also sky high: € 1745!
After the 10 inch heels from Alexander McQueen, it’s now UK based artist Insa who designed a 10 inch high heel. The very colorfull shoe has something smelly. It’s created with elephant dung! The shoes are actually made in honour of Chris Ofili who often made his painting using elepant dung.
The eighties are back again! Well, at least Alexander McQueen has been inspired by it with these Geometric pumps. Great for a ‘Back to the eighties party’. The yellow and black geometric print is going to be the eyecatcher. The towering 5 inch (12,5 cm) black heel is not going to be missed either. Hidden in the shoe is also a small ¾ inch (2 cm) high platform. That makes this pump very ‘walkable‘.
Do you remember the Manolo Blahnik Something blue pumps worn by Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) in SatC: The movie? If you -like me- also like this pump very much, you probably also know there is almost an identical much cheaper pump available: The Martinez Valero Zenith pump. Now, this pump is also available in other colors. Does that make this shoe a Something black, Something white or Something Ivory pump?
