Without knowing what a Spare Spike is, I though it might be some kind of emergency repair kit for (spike) heels. Maybe you do remember the Sparesoles which are actually an emergency pair of shoes. But no, it’s something completely different. It are spikes to put under your shoes to help you walk on icy surfaces more securely. Karen Roges from a local TV station in Philadelphia, PA  tried it with 3 inch (7,5 cm) high heels.

Believe it or not, it helped more or less. However, I still don’t recommend to walk high heeled (with or without the spikes) on icy surfaces. Not only because it doesn’t look very attractive when you have the spare spike around your shoes. It’s also still a bit scary according to the video. Maybe just for emergency…
